This was a monoprint made from life. In this case, the monoprint was created by wiping away ink from a plate using a cloth, and then running the plate through a press. It is one of my favourite techniques because it is very freeing. You can’t be too precious with the print, because it is impossible to predict how it will turn out. I was first inspired to try it after seeing the monoprints of Maggi Hambling in her show, ‘Touch: works on paper’, at the British Museum in 2016.
